Straight outta Dodge City: Where you can go for a ‘Gunsmoke’ reunion
If you’re still missing Miss Kitty and Marshal Matt Dillon, plan a trip to Dodge City this month. The city in Kansas will pay tribute to the 60th anniversary of the “Gunsmoke” TV series with actors such as Bruce Boxleitner and Burt Reynolds, who appeared in some episodes.
The Western ran on CBS from 1955 to 1975 and featured a fictional Dodge City of the Old West (the show was actually shot outside Kanab, Utah).
At the Wild West Fest‘s “Gunsmoke” reunion, you can watch episodes of the show on the big screen at a drive-in theater on Sept. 25.
The tribute continues Sept. 26 with Q&A panels starting at 10 a.m. Reynolds, who played blacksmith Quint Aspen on the series from 1962 to ‘65; Buck Taylor, who played part-time deputy Newly O’Brien from 1967 to ‘75; and four others from the show will appear at meet-and-greets and autograph sessions.
The rest of the festival continues through Sept. 27 and includes a beer fest and music by the Jared Daniels Band. It also coincides with the Kansas Pro Rodeo Finals, for those who want to see real-life cowboys.
Tickets to panels and meet-and-greets cost $10 each; the beer fest costs $20 per person.
