You’ll feel on top of the world on this motorcycle tour to India’s Himalayas
Ever think of touring the Himalayas on a motorcycle? Riders who like roughing it and a little luxury can have both on a tour of some of the world’s highest roads in India’s northern mountains.
Extreme Bike Tours offers 14-day itineraries for two Mighty Himalayan motorcycle tours in 2016 -- one that starts June 18 and one that starts July 5 -- and now adds an upgraded stay at the Hyatt Regency Delhi for those who reserve by Sept. 30.
The offer includes a Hyatt stay at the beginning and the end of the June 18 tour, and a night’s stay at the end of the July 5 tour.
During the tours, riders travel six to eight hours each day through high mountain passes and wide valleys to see ancient Buddhist monasteries and nomad life in the sparse high-altitude landscape. At night, it’s camping under the stars in villages in Ladakh.
One route crosses the Khardung La pass, more than 18,000 feet high, and rides into the remote Nubra Valley; another adds a whitewater rafting trip on the Beas River.
Tours cost $4,334 per rider and $3,371 for passengers sitting behind drivers or traveling in a support vehicle. The cost includes use of Royal Enfield Bullet 500 motorcycles, fuel, guides, meals and lodgings.
