Ready for a summer road trip? 12 California routes to try
The new (and free) California Road Trips 2015 guide lays out 12 summer itineraries around one of the road trippiest states in the nation.
Like lakes? You’ll see plenty of them on a 703-mile drive from Tahoe City to Bass Lake. Love the desert? Take a 463-mile drive from Anza-Borrego Desert State Park to Death Valley National Park.
The deal: The California Road Trips 2015 is free and produced by VisitCalifornia, the state’s tourism and marketing organization. The glossy color guide details routes with mileage, places to stop and maps for each itinerary.
California’s Wildest Wilds, for example, takes visitors on a scenic loop in Northern California from Redding to Chico via lesser-known places such as Trinity Lake, Weed, Lava Beds National Monument and Chester on the edge of Lake Almanor.
You can download a copy at Visit California’s website, request a printed copy of the guide online or by phone at (877) 225-4367.
When: The guide is available indefinitely.
Details: Yes, road trip season is here, but so are higher gas prices. California has had the highest gas prices in the nation for the past two months. In California, you can expect to pay $3.79 per gallon for regular gas, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. (The national average is $2.67.)
