Poland: B&B
Mini Hotel, Zelenaya 15, Wroclaw-Karowice. 011-48- 71-325-4924, https://www.minihotel.pl . “We had a lovely summer vacation in Poland. While in Wroclaw, we stayed at the Mini Hotel, run by a couple [the Jurdygas] who have opened up their home and hearts to those visiting this charming city. Bed and breakfast for two is included in the price. The owner will gladly prepare delicious home-cooked meals and serve them at whatever time of day you prefer. She’ll also do your laundry, if you ask. There is a nearby park, with a pleasant walkway along the riverbank for strolls as well. The couple who own this small place are attempting to learn some English, a new Polish trend.” Doubles $80.

Texas: Tex-Mex
Tres Amigos, 1801 S. Capital of Texas Highway, Austin; (512) 327-1776. “This is one of four Tres Amigos in the area. The cuisine is labeled Tex-Mex, but it’s a little more upscale than that. They deep-fry a corn tortilla and when it puffs into a ball shape, they drain it and carefully cut it into delicate halves, filling one half with a taco mixture and turning the other half upside down and covering it with melted cheese and chiles.” Dinner entrees are $4.50 to $25.
