Does evil lurk on Kauai after Spielberg’s ‘Jurassic’ shoot?

Attention, Steven Spielberg: Did you forget something after you finished your “Jurassic World” film shoot on Kauai? Something fairly large--in the 2-ton range--and, um, hungry?

That’s one of the questions raised, along with anxieties, in a 3 1/2-minute video starring Kauai locals. They just wanted to thank Spielberg for returning for the filming of “Jurassic World,” the director’s latest blockbuster. It brought in more than $200 million on its opening weekend.

But as the video suggests, their gratitude may have been a bit premature.

With coordination from the Kauai Visitors Bureau, island residents were filmed in scenic locations holding signs reading, “Mahalo Nui Loa, Steven Spielberg,” Hawaiian for “Thank you very much.”

They are a smiling, happy bunch--at first. But then there is this rustling of grasses and these rumblings and howlings and then...

We don’t want to spoil it for you, but this message then appears on the screen: “Steven, we think you left something behind on Kauai.”

Parts of the three previous Jurassic movies-- “Jurassic Park,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park III” were also filmed in lush, tropical settings on Kauai, which ranks fourth among the islands in number of visitors.

After the credits, the film closes with a final missive: “We are waiting for your return Steven Spielberg.”

Mahalo nui loa, indeed.
