Why enrolling in TSA’s faster-through-airport-security program may be easier this summer
Members of the TSA’s PreCheck program use dedicated lanes that allow them to get through airport security checkpoints more quickly.
Still haven’t signed up for TSA PreCheck? This summer two enrollment centers in Southern California and others around the country are expanding their hours to serve travelers who want to join the expedited airport screening program.
PreCheck is designed to move its members through airport security lines more quickly because they use dedicated lanes and don’t have to take off their shoes, belts and light jackets or remove liquids (3 ounces or less) or laptops from their cases.

To accommodate more travelers, the enrollment center at John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County now is open 6 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays (closed noon to 12:30 p.m.).
The IdentoGO (that’s the company that processes PreCheck applicants) office at 603 S. Brand Ave. in Glendale is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.
Expanded hours are in effect until at least Aug. 14.
You can start the application process online or at an enrollment center. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and have a valid U.S. ID, agree to be fingerprinted and pay $85 to apply. Once accepted, PreCheck membership is good for five years.
More than 4,000 people enroll in the Transportation Security Administration’s program each day, and more than 1.3 million travelers have signed up since 2013, according to IdentoGO.
