Savor sea-to-table salmon (caught by you) on your next Alaska cruise

People who love sportfishing and also love cruising may find more to love about their next sailing to Alaska.

Cook My Catch offers guests a chance to fish for salmon or halibut on port stops and have their fish cooked to order. Princess Cruises, which announced the program last week, says it’s a chance to give passengers more “authentic local experiences.”

It’s available on selected sportfishing excursions in Juneau and Ketchikan as well as vacation stays at Kenai and Cooper River wilderness lodges run by Princess.

(By the way, Conde Nast Traveler readers earlier this month chose the Kenai River lodge as one of the top dozen 2015 resorts in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.)

But it’s not the only local culture experience.

As part of the line’s North to Alaska program this year, new programs (at no extra cost) include meeting Iditarod sled dog puppies and their trainers in Skagway and firsthand accounts of mountain climbers who have made it to the summit of Denali, the highest U.S. peak at more than 20,000 feet.

This is all in addition to TV’s “Deadliest Catch” ship captain talking about crab fishing, lumberjacks talking about their lifestyle and storytelling about the Klondike days.

Princess offers more than 120 departures between May and September, starting in San Francisco; Seattle; Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and Anchorage, Alaska.
