Virgin Atlantic tells first-class fliers: Steal our holiday salt and pepper shakers. Please.

Virgin Atlantic’s little plane-shaped salt and pepper shakers with feet were introduced 15 years ago. Now the airline tells passengers to feel free to steal (or as they put it “pinch”) the red limited-edition holiday versions from their flights.

Why?

Well, apparently the shakers — named Wilbur and Orville — are the most stolen items aboard the airline. Even the words “pinched from Virgin Atlantic” stamped on the bottom didn’t dissuade light-fingered passengers.

(Mugs rank as the second most-taken item, followed by blankets, hand wash and hand cream, cutlery, safety cards and even sick bags, a Virgin Atlantic news release said.)

So Virgin Atlantic decided to just make it an open secret — and make the shakers even cuter in red. They are available for swiping only in first class (called upper class on the British carrier), and only from Dec. 21 to 26.

“The airline is encouraging customers to pinch them and take them home to sit pride of place on the Christmas dinner table or gifted to that aviation enthusiast relative,” the release said.

The regular shakers come in black and silver.
