Disney’s California Adventure Park will close Tower of Terror on Jan. 2
Goodbye, creepy Hollywood Tower Hotel elevator. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, a scary, free-fall haunt that opened at Disney’s California Adventure Park in 2004, will close permanently Jan. 2.
But not without one last Halloween trick (or is it a treat?).
Starting Sept. 9, the Tower takes a dark turn with what’s called the Late Check-Out. Visitors who come in the evening will experience the free-fall ride completely in the dark. It’s the first time the park has turned the lights out on the tower experience, a news release says.
The soon-to-be-closed attraction will make way for a Marvel superhero-driven Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout! experience expected to debut next summer.
At Disneyland, Mickey’s Halloween Party this year will feature a Frightfully Fun Parade with the usual cast of ghosts and ghouls as well as the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. Tickets purchased in advance start at $79 per person; the party is held on 17 dates during the Halloween season.
Other Halloween happenings at Disneyland include the Haunted Mansion’s holiday gingerbread house (more scary than sweet), the Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy ride, and the character Jack Skellington from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” taking over the Haunted Mansion.
Halloween season at Disney parks runs from Sept. 9 through Oct. 31.
