Solo travelers won’t get charged extra on small-group Overseas Adventure tours

Sometimes single travelers can feel singled out. Those who go it alone often face the prospect of paying a dreaded single supplement, which can be as high as double the base price of a trip, or not going at all. Enter Boston-based Overseas Adventure Travel, which doesn’t charge extra for solo travelers.

The deal: Overseas Adventure specializes in small-group travel to Central and South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, the South Pacific, Antarctica and the Middle East. Groups are limited to 10 to 16 participants on each tour. The company says as many as 40% of its participants in recent years have been solo travelers.

The company doesn’t charge single supplements on any of its trips, but spaces for solo travelers are limited. The bottom line: Book early if you want to make sure you get one of these spots. Travelers also have the option of being matched with a roommate.

When: The offer is good indefinitely on all the company’s trips.

Details: New journeys for 2017 include an 18-day trip to China during which you’ll meet a Mongolian family and learn their herdsmen traditions. Prices start at $4,995 for double or single occupancy. It includes international airfare, internal flights and ground transportation, accommodations, meals and more.
