SoCal county fairs go hog wild in August and September
Deep-fried and heavy-metal loud, county fairs are in full swing across Southern California these days. Discounts are available at supermarkets and many other sponsors throughout the Southland. Also look for daily deals. For instance, the Ventura County Fair, which opens today, is offering $1 admission before 3 p.m. today. Next Wednesday, look for $3 admission before 3 p.m.
Here’s a round-up of local fairs.
Now through Aug. 14
Highlights: Sports cars, wine tastings and Train, Boston or the B-52s in the Pacific Amphitheatre
Hours: Wednesday-Friday, noon-midnight; Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.- midnight; Monday-Tuesday: closed
Admission: Adults, $12; kids 6-12, $7; seniors, $7; children 5 and younger free

Aug. 3-14
Highlights: The Ventura fair is touting cool ocean breezes, a parade (10 a.m. Aug. 6), free concerts and rodeos.

Sept. 2-25
Highlights: Fried peanut-butter pickles among the inventive food attractions; Chicago and War in the fair’s concert series.
Weekday admission: Adults, $14; kids 6-12, $8; seniors, $10; ages 5 and under free.
Holiday and weekend admission: Adults, $20; kids 6-12, $12; seniors, $15; ages 5 and under free.
Hours: Wednesdays, noon–10 p.m.; Thursdays, noon to 11 p.m.; Fridays, noon to midnight; Saturdays 10 a.m. to midnight; Sundays 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
