Bear Mountain is set to open Friday — the first Southern California ski resort to do so this season

It’s not a ton of snow, but the showers that brought an inch of rain to some areas of the L.A. Basin brought enough snow to Southern California’s mountains for one ski resort to open.

Bear Mountain plans to open two chair lifts (7 and 9) from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, according to an announcement Tuesday. Lift tickets cost $69.

No word on when sister resort Snow Summit will open.

Mountain High resort near Wrightwood says it received 1 to 3 inches of snow after Sunday’s storm. “We will make snow at every possible opportunity with plans to open sometime during the Thanksgiving holiday,” the resort’s website says.

(You can sign up for a Powder Alert if you want to go.) Early season lift tickets cost $45 for adults and $25 for children. The resort also will run lifts from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mount Baldy near Baldy Village received 3 inches of snow at its higher elevations like Thunder Mountain but has no opening date yet. The resort’s website says it will make snow to start creating its base.

The ski lift, however, will be open to the Notch restaurant Thanksgiving through the weekend for those who want to enjoy the views and hoist a beer.
