These Vintners’ Holidays in Yosemite may help boost your wine IQ

If you want to elevate your next California wine-tasting journey, think about a fall trip to Yosemite National Park.

The landmark Ahwahnee Hotel offers multi-day food and wine events that have been a tradition for more than three decades.

Called the Vintners’ Holidays (so named because they’re after the grape harvest), sessions highlight 24 wines in groups of four and the people who make them.

Each session features wine tastings and seminars, a reception in which you’ll meet some of the winemakers, and “rare or limited-release wines” paired with a five-course dinner prepared by the hotel’s executive chef, Percy Whatley.

The sessions are Nov. 8 to 10. THe first one will feature Frog’s Leap Winery, Rock Wall Wine Co., Dehlinger Winery and Corison Winery led by wine journalist Dan Berger.

A second session runs Nov. 11 and 12 and will highlight Inman Family Wines, Plumpjack Winery, Charles Heintz Vineyards & Winery and Rombauer Vineyards, also led by Berger.

If you want to stay at the Ahwahnee, two-day packages start at $448 per person and three-day packages start at $573 per person (based on double occupancy). It includes the seminars, reception, gala dinner in the Ahwahnee Dining room and gratuities but excludes tax.

Prices are cheaper for rooms at Yosemite Lodge at the Falls (starting at $338 for a two-night package) and Curry Village cabins (starting at $308 per person).
