Mammoth Mountain ski resort just blew past its snowfall totals for all of last year

It’s a fantastic time to be a skier or snowboarder in California.

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in Mammoth Lakes reports that it has received 188 inches of snow so far this winter season. That surpasses the 176 inches of snow the resort received during the entire 2014-15 season.

Storms that started Friday brought a total of 26 inches of snow to the resort, according to Mammoth’s website. More is expected this weekend.

The resort is on pace to hit its seasonal average of 400 inches, but this season’s El Niño bounty is unlikely to challenge the record set in the 2010-11 season. That year, Mammoth received a whopping 668.5 inches of snow.

Lake Tahoe area ski resorts are also reveling in big snow.

Squaw Valley has received 259 inches of snow up top so far this season, according to its website. It has received 46 inches in the last eight days and is expecting more heavy snowfall on Friday night and into Saturday.

The resort’s sister site, Alpine Meadows, has received 253 inches so far this season.
