Here’s something RNC speaker Tim Tebow probably won’t mention about Donald Trump

The brash billionaire/presumptive Republican presidential nominee has said he wanted “winners” from the sports world on hand at next week’s national convention.

And while he was turned down by several of the people on his wish list – including Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Mike Ditka – Trump has landed others who definitely meet that criterion, according to the list of speakers released Thursday by the Republican Party.

In addition to Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner out of Florida, others with sports ties who will be taking the stage in Cleveland include UFC President Dana White, golfer Natalie Gulbis and formerly paralyzed Michigan football player Brock Mealer.

Tebow is the biggest get of that group. His NFL career may have fizzled years ago, but the devout and outspoken Christian still has a large and dedicated group of followers. He is pretty experienced at public speaking and has indicated a possible interest in getting into politics at some point.

There is also a link of sorts between Trump and him, but Tebow probably won’t be bringing it up during his speech. Back in 2012, during the height of Tebowmania, Trump purchased a Denver Broncos helmet autographed by the quarterback and Tebow jersey for $12,000 during a live auction at a charity fundraiser, the Washington Post reports.

The money went to the Susan G. Komen organization, but it came from another nonprofit, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, according to the Post. Trump founded the charity in 1987 but at the time of the auction, the Post reports, hadn’t donated any money to it in three years.

If Trump kept the items for himself or gave them to a friend, he could be in violation of IRS rules against the “furnishing of goods” by private foundations to their own officers, according to the Post, which was unable to discover the whereabouts of those items.

A related note Tebow probably won’t bring up in Cleveland or anywhere else is the current value of the autographed helmet and Broncos jersey Trump bid $12,000 for that night. The Post reports that similar items can now be purchased online for $415.
