One-handed basketball player Zach Hodskins offered spot by Florida
Zach Hodskins, whose left arm ends at his elbow and who became a YouTube sensation after a video was posted of him playing basketball, has been offered a spot as a walk-on at the University of Florida by Coach Billy Donovan.
Hodskins has played high school and AAU ball over the last few years. He hasn’t decided yet whether to accept the offer, which would guarantee Hodskins a place on the team, but he won’t get a scholarship.
Before you cry out “gimmick for publicity,” watch the video of Hodskins playing. He has legitimate skills.
“That’s what I’ve always asked for,” Hodskins, who was born without the lower half of his left arm, told the Associated Press. “I love when people say things like ‘he’s a ballplayer’ first. Before ‘he’s an inspiration’ or ‘overcoming the odds.’”
