LA24 releases video for Los Angeles’ 2024 Summer Olympics bid
LA24 has released a video touting the city’s campaign to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.
From a purely sports perspective, the one-minute spot has a grass-roots vibe, with a runner on the streets, a soccer player in the park and a surfer waiting for the next wave.
The bid committee also emphasizes population diversity and includes more than a few panoramic shots of downtown with captions touting L.A. as the “Western Capital of the US” and the “Eastern Capital of the Pacific Rim.”
Los Angeles re-entered the race for 2024 earlier this month when Mayor Eric Garcetti and sports executive Casey Wasserman hand-delivered their submission to International Olympic Committee officials in Switzerland.
The city is considered a close competitor to Paris in an international field that includes Rome, Budapest, and Hamburg, Germany.
Though reduced traffic ranked among the highlights of the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games, there have been concerns about duplicating that feat nine years from now.
The video addresses that issue with a picture of a light-rail station, ending with: “Welcome to the new LA.”
