U.S. Open in rain delay

After top-seeded Victoria Azarenka jumped into a 3-0 lead over defending champion Samantha Stosur on Tuesday, rain that had been predicted finally arrived, and matches were suspended.

Other key matches on the day’s schedule include third-seeded 2006 champion Maria Sharapova against Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli, who had upset Serena Williams at Wimbledon two years ago; and what could be 20th-seeded Andy Roddick’s career-ending match Tuesday night against 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro.

Roddick, 30, announced last week that he would retire from the game whenever his U.S. Open ended.
