U.S. Open in rain delay
NEW YORK -- — After top-seeded Victoria Azarenka jumped into a 3-0 lead over defending champion Samantha Stosur on Tuesday, rain that had been predicted finally arrived, and matches were suspended.
Other key matches on the day’s schedule include third-seeded 2006 champion Maria Sharapova against Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli, who had upset Serena Williams at Wimbledon two years ago; and what could be 20th-seeded Andy Roddick’s career-ending match Tuesday night against 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro.
Roddick, 30, announced last week that he would retire from the game whenever his U.S. Open ended.
Rain is in the forecast for most of the day.
