Jovan Belcher’s daughter to receive finanical support from NFL

Following the murder-suicide of Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, the NFL announced that their young daughter, Zoey, will be supported by the league through college.

Zoey will be a beneficiary of the collective bargaining agreement signed last year.

According to NFL.com, Zoey, who is 3 months old, will receive $108,000 a year for four years. When she turns 5, she will get $48,000, then $52,000 a year until she is 18 or 23, depending on whether she goes to college.

Belcher shot Perkins on Saturday then drove to the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice facility and shot himself in front of team officials who were trying to stop him, including General Manager Scott Pioli and Coach Romeo Crennel.

Belcher reportedly asked Pioli and team owner Clark Hunt to care for his daughter, according to the Kansas City Star.

Crennel tried to talk Belcher down.

“I was trying to get him to understand that life is not over,” Crennel told the Star. “He still has a chance and let’s get this worked out.’’

Belcher shot himself as he heard police sirens approaching.

“I got to go,” Belcher reportedly said. “I can’t be here.”
