Watch a running back gain yards with helmet on backward [Video]

There is the blind leading the blind, and then there is this running back blindly following his blockers when his helmet gets turned 180 degrees.

Oddly, the video above doesn’t show any flag being thrown for a facemask or grabbing-the-helmet penalty.

But Christian Young of Bountiful (Utah) Viewmont High does pick up five yards on what we can call intuition.

Young takes a handoff and is immediately met at the line of scrimmage by two defenders, but he breaks a tackle and bounces outside. In a last-ditch attempt, a defender grabs his helmet and it twists around Young’s head 180 degrees.

Not to be thwarted since he’s still on his feet, Young tries to turn his helmet around as he continues to make his way downfield for a five-yard gain before getting tackled.

One can assume he never saw the hit coming.
