Patriots owner Robert Kraft is ‘rooting for’ Tim Tebow ... but who isn’t?

Tim Tebow may have endeared himself to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, but that may not be enough to keep the quarterback on the final roster.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft told reporters Tuesday that he’s “rooting for” quarterback Tim Tebow to make the team’s final 53-man roster.

Aren’t we all?

“With Tim Tebow, anyone who has met him [learns] he is a very special young man. I’m rooting for him big time,” Kraft said. “He’s been a real joy to have around here. I see why he has such a strong national following; he’s just a great, great young man.”

Luckily Kraft stopped short channeling his inner Thom Brennaman and telling us how much better our lives would be if we spent five or 20 minutes with Tebow.

And Kraft also made it clear that even though he’s the one who pays the bills, he won’t be involved in any player personnel decisions -- even when it comes to a person as special as Tebow. That’s entirely up to Coach Bill Belichick, the owner said.

“I’m rooting for [Tebow] and I’m in his corner, but I have the privilege of letting Bill make those decisions,” Kraft said. “He’s got a pretty good record doing that.”

Three games into the preseason, Tebow really hasn’t done much that would seem to impress a head coach. He’s completed five of 19 passes for 54 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Plus, he was given no playing time at all during the third preseason game.

But that’s on the field. Don’t forget what a joy it is just to be around Tebow. That’s got to count for something.

Actually, with all the Patriots have been through this summer, maybe it does.
