Paris continues its Olympic bid in wake of terrorist attacks

This has been a difficult week in Paris, but officials leading the city’s bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics confirmed Tuesday they will proceed with an important international meeting.
Tony Estanguet, a former Olympic athlete and co-president of the bid, will lead a 10-person delegation to a workshop at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland this week, bid spokesperson Sophie Guillon Morel said.
IOC President Thomas Bach had previously called for Olympic business to continue in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks, saying: “In these dark times, we should remember the unifying power of sport to unite people and communities and to bring peace and reconciliation.”
The IOC is meeting individually with all five bid cities. A Los Angeles contingent is scheduled for its workshop later in the week.
Paris has been considered an early front-runner in the competition that includes Rome; Hamburg, Germany; and Budapest, Hungary.
