In a tournament marked by bad weather and some truly unfortunate golf shots, Padraig Harrington won the Honda Classic in a sudden-death playoff on Monday when his opponent hit a tee shot into the water.

A simple par was all it took for Harrington to win at 6-under after Daniel Berger plunked his tee shot on No. 17, the second extra hole.

The irony in this?

A few minutes earlier, in regulation play, Harrington had opened the door for Berger with double-bogey on the same hole.

It was a rough weekend at the PGA National Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Delays extended the tournament by a day as Ian Poulter lost his lead with two shanked tee shots and a total of three double-bogeys in the final round.

“It’s a shame to hand tournaments away,” Poulter told the Golf Channel. “You don’t mind being beaten fair-and-square but I’ve handed one away this week.”
