Report: Mark Sanchez blew up at Jets GM after shoulder injury

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery this week, but he’s been an enthusiastic cheerleader for rookie quarterback Geno Smith.

That’s not to say Sanchez took his injury in stride.

According to a report Thursday in the New York Post, the former USC star erupted at General Manager John Idzik in the trainer’s room after being injured in the fourth quarter of a meaningless exhibition game against the New York Giants. Sanchez was playing behind a second-string offensive line, and it was boneheaded of the Jets to have him in the game in the first place.

The Post report cites unnamed witnesses who were in the training room at the time.

There is virtually no conceivable scenario in which the Jets would keep Sanchez, who would count a whopping $13.1 million against their cap if he were to be on the roster next season.

However, Coach Rex Ryan chided reporters Wednesday about writing off the quarterback.

“We’re acting like he’s dead,” Ryan said. “Mark Sanchez is not dead. Sanchez is going to be 100% healthy, guys. It’s not like his career is over.”
