Lindsey Vonn suffered partial ACL tear of surgically repaired knee
Lindsey Vonn’s publicist wrote Wednesday that the star skier suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee in Tuesday’s downhill training crash at Copper Mountain, Colo.
Ok, so now we know, but what now?
That’s the same knee Vonn had surgically repaired after a crash at last February’s World Championships in Austria. Vonn tore her medial colleteral ligament and ACL and also fractured her tibia.
Not answered yet is whether Vonn, the defending Olympic gold medal champion, can recover in time to complete next February at the 2012 Sochi Olympics.
“Lindsey sustained a mild strain to her right knee, a partial tear to her right ACL, minor facial abrasions and scapular contusions from her fall,” Lewis Kay, her publicist, wrote Wednesday. “She needs to rest for a few days and then will pursue aggressive physical therapy and will determine the next time she is able to compete after seeing how she responds to the treatment.”
Wednesday’s news takes Vonn out of her planned late November comeback at a World Cup event at Beaver Creek, near Vail, Colo.
Vonn, 29, has come back from numerous injuries in her career. She took a nasty training spill before the 2006 Olympics in Italy but still competed, and won Olympic gold in Vancouver in 2010 racing on a badly bruised shin.
