Jonathan Quick leads Kings past Florida Panthers, 4-0

For the Kings, it was almost like a carbon copy of their previous victory over the Florida Panthers this season.

Close enough.

This time, it was goalie Jonathan Quick with the 4-0 shutout against the Panthers, not Ben Scrivens, who pulled off that feat in a 3-0 Kings victory at Florida on Oct. 13.

The win marked a career achievement for Quick -- his 172nd victory with the Kings, passing franchise legend Rogie Vachon. Vachon, in fact, was on hand at Staples Center on Saturday afternoon for the moment, a nice touch.

It was Quick’s fifth shutout of the season and the 30th of his career.

Of larger concern is the status of Kings captain Dustin Brown, who was injured during the second period and did not return. The team said he suffered an upper-body injury. Brown had returned to the lineup Thursday against the Washington Capitals after missing two games because of illness and a lower-body injury.

Saturday’s win, which gave the Kings back-to-back victories after losing three straight, was largely sparked by the fourth line. Trevor Lewis scored the first goal and set up the second -- by Mike Richards -- to make it 2-0 after the first period.

Richards took advantage of some porous defense by the Panthers and Brown did the same when he scored at 8:54 of the second period to make it 3-0. Defenseman Alec Martinez rounded out the scoring with a power-play goal at 11:59 of the third. It was the ninth goal of the season for Martinez.
