Jerry Remy condemns son’s action after he was charged with murder
Jerry Remy, a former major league player and Boston Red Sox broadcaster, issued a statement detailing his “disgust and remorse” a day after his son pleaded not guilty to charges he murdered his girlfriend.
Remy’s son Jared allegedly stabbed to death Jennifer Martel in the couple’s apartment in Waltham, Mass., on Thursday night, only a day after he was released from custody for an assault case involving Martel.
Martel’s child was in the apartment when she was killed. The child, who is now in the custody of child welfare, was unhurt.
The elder Remy, who played for the Angels from 1975-77 and with Boston from 1978-84, has been battling lung cancer but has continued to work as a TV analyst for Red Sox games.
He took to Twitter to release a statement.

In 2009, Jared Remy and a second member of the Red Sox security staff were implicated in steroid use, which led Major League Baseball to investigate whether anyone on the team was using performance-enhancing drugs.
Remy and the second man were fired by the Red Sox and MLB did not find evidence of PED use among Red Sox players.
