Jarome Iginla headed to Kings or Blackhawks? Don’t ask

CHICAGO – It wasn’t the longest cross-examination, but Jarome Iginla looked somewhat relieved to be leaving Chicago, not just because he was a minus-one and the Calgary Flames lost 2-0 to the Blackhawks.

Of course, the questions about his future will only follow him back home to Calgary. He was not available after the morning skate so he spoke to the assembled media shortly after the loss.

Recent reports indicated that Iginla, who has a no-trade clause, had submitted a short list of teams where he would consent to play, apparently including the Blackhawks and the Kings. The 35-year-old power forward had nine goals and 22 points in 31 games.

“I said earlier, I didn’t want to add to it or talk about it,” he said when asked specifically about Chicago. “I know there’s a lot of talk out there. As a group, we talked. Knowing right now we’re out of the playoffs, there’s going to be a lot of talk about all the teams and which guys are available on every team.

“Playing in Canada, and stuff, we just don’t want to add to it. There’s a lot of stuff. In four or five days, it’ll be settled and the deadline will be done.”

The NHL’s trade deadline is April 3. There is a sense -- at least right now -- that the asking price for Iginla would be too high for the Kings.

Iginla noted that some of his colleagues go through this exercise all the time, adding, “It’s my turn.”
