At his annual news conference before the Memorial Tournament, host Jack Nicklaus weighed in on the recent friction between Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia.

And he didn’t waste many words.

“The Sergio-Tiger thing,” he said, “I mean, it’s stupid.”

The spat began at the Players Championship, where Garcia claimed that Woods distracted him by pulling a club from his bag -- and causing a stir in the crowd -- at an inopportune moment. The two traded barbs and Garcia later made a racially insensitive remark in reference to Woods.

The Spanish golfer has since apologized.

Woods, who will tee off late in tomorrow’s first round at Muirfield Village in Ohio, echoed Nicklaus in saying of the issue: “It’s already done with ... it’s time to move on.”

At Wednesday’s news conference, the world’s top-ranked golfer also talked about gaining a new perspective thanks to his girlfriend, Lindsey Vonn. He gets to play four major tournaments each year; she gets one Olympic Games every four years.

“Ours is four days, sometimes five days,” he said of golf’s premier events. “Hers is two minutes.”

Vonn is attempting to rehabilitate an injured knee in time for next year’s Sochi Winter Games.
