Galaxy’s Bradford Jamieson IV named to U-20 World Cup team

Galaxy forward Bradford Jamieson IV has been named to the U.S. team for this month’s U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Jamieson, 18, has been called up previously for the U-20 team, most recently last winter when he helped the U.S. qualify for the World Cup by finishing third in the CONCACAF championships. Earlier this season Jamieson scored his first Major League Soccer goal for the Galaxy in a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls.

The monthlong U-20 World Cup begins May 30 and will be played among 24 countries at seven sites in New Zealand. The U.S. hasn’t advanced out of group play in the tournament since 2007, when it reached the quarterfinals.

Also named to the team was former Galaxy academy player Paul Arriola, now with Tijuana of the Mexican league, and Glendora’s Marco Delgado, a former Chivas USA midfielder now with Toronto FC. Two other Californians – Carpinteria defender John Requejo, who plays with Tijuana, and forward Tommy Thompson from Loomis and the San Jose Earthquakes – are also on the 20-man roster.

The team will report to training camp at the StubHub Center in Carson on May 14.

“I’ve very excited about this particular group,” Coach Tab Ramos said in a statement. “It was very difficult making the final decision because there were quite a few players who deserved to go to the World Cup. Unfortunately, in the end, I can only select a certain number and I’m very happy with the selections we made.”
