Oregon Ducks migrating across the West, Facebook ‘likes’ reveal

What in the name of the Oregon Ducks is going on with California, as well as other western states, and its Facebook liking of that university’s football team?

The social media website researched “likes” on its pages from each state, county by county, discovering that the Ducks have flown the farm in the Willamette Valley to dominate the Pacific Northwest -- outside of Boise State territory in Idaho, of course, -- as well as two-thirds of California, half of Nevada and parts of other western states.

Before you call the Pac-12 Conference’s North Division the Duck District, the Facebook “likes” were calculated for top-25 teams, leaving both Washington schools and Cal out of the mix.

In the Southland, USC got the nod over UCLA.

Two-time reigning national champion Alabama, ranked No. 1 entering this season, doesn’t match the Ducks outside of its state, only winning a majority of Tennessee beyond state borders.

The other big “like” winners on Facebook: Texas is a big favorite in the middle of the nation and claimed the most counties overall with 543; Florida was not only popular in the South but also in parts of the Northeast; Michigan men (and women) are all over the country in perhaps the widest fan base; Ohio State dominated not only its state but western Pennsylvania, northern Kentucky, most of West Virginia and parts of Southwest states as well; Oklahoma State kept its county Cowboy Country although the Sooners claimed the rest of the state.
