David Ortiz ejected after destroying dugout phone in fit of rage

It’s no secret Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has a temper. You don’t get the nickname Big Papi without having the machismo and girth to back it up.

But Ortiz went a little crazy during the Red Sox’s 7-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.

After believing he drew a walk on a 3-0 pitch in the seventh inning, Ortiz went on to strike out during his at-bat. He then argued with home plate umpire Tim Timmons until he was back in the dugout -- and that’s when Big Papi really got mad.

Ortiz took out his frustration on the clubhouse phone, smashing it to smithereens just across from teammate Dustin Pedroia, who was showered in debris.

Ortiz was promptly ejected after his dugout tirade and had to be restrained by teammates and coaches when he tried to yell at umpires on the field.

Maybe Ortiz should just follow baseball tradition next time and beat up on the water cooler -- they hold up a lot better.
