Bears trade 2011 first-round pick Gabe Carimi to Tampa Bay

The Chicago Bears confirmed that they will trade former first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, pending a physical.

Although the Bears did not disclose Sunday night what they would receive in return, multiple reports said the Buccaneers will be sending a future sixth-round draft pick to Chicago.

An Outland Trophy winner at Wisconsin, Carimi was selected 29th overall in 2011 and started the first two games of the season at right tackle before a knee injury ended his season and appeared to limit him last season as well.

Still, he started 14 games in 2012, including the first 10 at right guard before losing that spot to Jonathan Scott.

Under new Coach Marc Trestman, the Bears have revamped their offensive line this off-season, signing left tackle Jermon Bushrod and veteran guards Matt Slauson and Eben Britton and drafting guard Kyle Long in the first round.

Still, the team was said to be considering moving Carimi back to guard full-time for 2013. Instead, he will be moving south to Tampa Bay, where he’s expected to compete with Demar Dotson for the starting right tackle position.
