Unbeaten Julian Ramirez, headliner of the Belasco fight card, misses weight
Golden Boy Promotions’ monthly card at the downtown Belasco Theater on Friday night is a sold-out show featuring some of the company’s top prospects.
Julian Ramirez (15-0, eight knockouts) of East Los Angeles missed the featherweight limit of 126 pounds Thursday, coming in at 127.4 pounds, but his bout with San Diego’s Chris Martin (28-6-3, nine KOs) is on.
Estrella TV will broadcast the card.
The World Boxing Council was going to put a minor belt on the line for Ramirez-Martin bout but revoked it after Ramirez came in heavy.
A spokeswoman for Ramirez said the fighter will huddle with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, and others at Golden Boy following tonight’s bout to determine if he should move up to super-featherweight for future fights.
De La Hoya described Friday’s show as “a stacked undercard of local talent.... Showcasing Southern California’s boxing talent is what we set out to do nearly a year ago with L.A. Fight Club and the fans have responded well.”
The card will also include East Los Angeles prospect Jonathan Navarro (3-0) versus Mexico’s Carlos Rodriguez (9-2, four KOs) and featherweight Abraham Lopez (19-0-1, 14 KOs) of La Puente against Puerto Rico’s Carlos Valcarcel (14-6-4, five KOs).
