Adrian Peterson says gay marriage is ‘not something I believe in’
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says he loves his gay relatives.
He just doesn’t think that they, or any other homosexual people, should have the right to get married.
“To each his own. I’m not with it,” the reigning NFL MVP said of gay marriage Sunday on Sirius/XM NFL radio. “But I have relatives that are gay. I’m not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love ‘em. But again, I’m not with that. That’s not something I believe in. But, to each his own.”
Peterson’s comments came on the same day that the Galaxy’s Robbie Rogers became the first openly gay male athlete to play in one of the five American major professional team sports.
But that wasn’t the topic of Peterson’s conversation with radio hosts Bruce Murray and Amani Toomer. Instead, they had asked him about the speculation that former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe had been released for being such an outspoken advocate for gay rights and gay marriage.
“I’m sure the Vikings organization did not release him based on that,” Peterson said of Kluwe, whom the running back said he considers a good friend. “They know Kluwe. They’ve known him for a long time. They know he’s outspoken.”
Gay marriage will become legal in Minnesota on Aug. 1.
