For European players, 2012 Ryder Cup is the gift that keeps giving
Reporting from GLENEAGLES, Scotland — Two years have passed since the famed “Miracle at Medinah” that saw the European team stage a furious, last-day rally to capture the 2012 Ryder Cup.
With the biennial competition coming back around on Friday, U.S. players insist they have put that bitter day out of their minds. The guys from Europe, however, can’t get enough of it.
The match was replayed frequently in the immediate aftermath of Medinah and has popped up on television recently. Justin Rose gets Twitter messages whenever it comes on.
“So I always know when other people are watching it,” he said.
Europe needed to win eight of 12 singles matches on the final day to claim victory. Martin Kaymer, who sank the clinching putt, has stumbled across replays while flipping channels.
“You keep sitting there because it’s a nice moment,” he said. “You want to see it.”
