Clippers are interested in Lamar Odom, report says

There is a chance that Lamar Odom’s career could come full circle.

The 6-foot-10 forward who began his career with the Clippers is reportedly being pursued by the team. According to ESPN, the team and the Dallas Mavericks have talked about a trade that would send Odom back to the Clippers, where he played from 1999-2000 through 2002-2003.

The Mavericks, who acquired Odom last season through a trade with the Lakers, have until Friday to decide whether they want to buy out the final year of his $2.4-million contract.

Odom struggled with the Mavericks, averaging career lows in points (6.6) and rebounds (4.2). The season before with the Lakers, he was named Sixth Man of the Year, while averaging 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds.

In April, Odom and the Mavericks decided to part ways, but the Mavericks still retain his rights.

ESPN reports that the trade hinges on whether the Clippers could find a third team to take guard Mo Williams. Williams is expected to exercise his $8.5-million option.

The Clippers are a guard-heavy team and could use Odom’s size and girth -- but considering his recent down-tick in production, acquiring him could be a bit of a gamble.

However, last year’s struggles may be an aberration. In his 13-season career, Odom has averaged 14.2 points and 8.6 rebounds, helping the Lakers win championships in 2009 and 2010.
