Rams to sign former Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles to one-year deal
The Rams added depth at quarterback Monday, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with former Jacksonville Jaguars starter Blake Bortles.
Terms were not released, but the Jaguars reportedly owe Bortles $6.5 million, so the Rams almost certainly negotiated a bargain for Bortles to back up Jared Goff.
Bortles, 26, replaces Sean Mannion, an unrestricted free agent. Bortles, the No. 3 pick in the 2014 draft, was released by the Jaguars last week as the team prepared to sign Nick Foles to a four-year contract.
Bortles had and up-and-down career with the Jaguars, compiling a 24-49 record as a starter. He helped lead the Jaguars to the 2017 AFC title game, and before last season received an extension that included $26.5 million in guarantees. But in 13 games last season, he passed for only 13 touchdowns with 11 interceptions and was replaced by former Trojan Cody Kessler.
The Rams appeared to be a natural landing spot for Bortles. He is represented by REP 1 Sports, the same firm that represents Goff and receivers Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp.
Since the end of the season, the Rams also signed veteran safety Eric Weddle and re-signed edge rusher Dante Fowler.
