Olympic leaders to review bids from LA 2024 and rival cities
There doesn’t figure to be much suspense this week when Olympic leaders meet to review the bids that Los Angeles and three other cities are submitting for the 2024 Summer Games.
The International Olympic Committee has so far expressed satisfaction with what it has seen from L.A., Paris, Rome and Budapest.
Besides, the agenda for the IOC’s executive board -- meeting in Switzerland from Wednesday through Friday – includes more-pressing issues.
Board members are expected to discuss the Russian doping scandal and suspicions of bribery in connection with Tokyo’s winning bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
There will also be an update on Rio de Janeiro and its continuing struggles to prepare for the 2016 Summer Games in August.
The session devoted to 2024 bidding is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Candidates are in the midst of a long process, with the IOC set to select a host in September 2017.
