Rangers lose two pitchers

The Texas Rangers put struggling left-hander Derek Holland on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, and later said Colby Lewis would join him because he won’t be able to throw for four weeks because of a lat muscle strain.

Lewis had cramping in his right arm while pitching five innings in a loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday night. General Manager Jon Daniels said an MRI revealed the strain and that Lewis was headed to the DL.

Holland allowed 11 of 23 Baltimore batters he faced to reach base in 41/3 innings Monday night. He has given up 13 runs over 131/3 innings his past three starts.

The Seattle Mariners signed right-handed reliever Tom Wilhelmsen and acquired left-hander Wade LeBlanc in a trade with Toronto. Wilhelmsen was a solid reliever with Seattle from 2011 to 2015 before being traded to the Rangers last off-season. LeBlanc, who probably will be Seattle’s starter Friday, was 7-2 with a 1.71 earned-run average in 14 starts with triple-A Buffalo.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he thought Bartolo Colon would be able to make his next scheduled start, one day after the right-hander was hit on his pitching hand by a line drive.
