The Lakers have assigned Darius Morris and Robert Sacre to the D-Fenders.

Second-year point guard Morris will join the Lakers’ D-League affiliate for the first time this season after falling out of the rotation. When both Steve Nash and Steve Blake were injured, Morris platooned with Chris Duhon, starting 17 games for the Lakers.

Morris is averaging 4.4 points a game on 39.8% shooting from the field and 37.7% from three-point range in 42 appearances. He hasn’t played more than seven minutes in a game since Jan. 15.

Rookie center Sacre has made five appearances with the D-Fenders, averaging 12 points and 8.6 rebounds a game.

Despite the foot injury to Pau Gasol, Coach Mike D’Antoni has turned to Metta World Peace and Earl Clark to back up center Dwight Howard instead of the inexperienced Sacre.

The Gonzaga center has played in 43 games for the Lakers, averaging 1.5 points in 7.2 minutes a night.

Both Morris and Sacre are expected to play on Saturday night in El Segundo against the Austin Toros.
