Xavier Henry has ruptured wrist ligament that will require surgery

Lakers reserve forward-guard Xavier Henry has a ruptured ligament in his left wrist and will require surgery after this season.

He will try to play through it, according to a Lakers official.

“The good news is it’s torn,” Henry said. “With that mind-set, I can’t do too much worse to it. Now it’s just go out there and be myself.”

Henry isn’t worried about opposing players going at his hand.

“I could care less,” he said. “I play hard. I do more damage to myself than they do to me.”

Henry is averaging 10.1 points and is in the last year of his contract. He was injured in Friday’s game against Washington and did not play Sunday against Orlando.

Henry had logged time at backup point guard in recent games so the Lakers had to use Kent Bazemore as Kendall Marshall’s backup Sunday. Bazemore had eight points and eight assists in the Lakers’ 103-94 victory over Orlando.

Henry sat out 28 games because of a bone bruise and cartilage abnormality in his right knee. He returned for six games before injuring his wrist.

The Lakers’ next game is Tuesday against New York.
