Lakers linked to 35-year-old veteran Pete Mickeal
With just 12 players under contract, the Lakers need to add to their roster before training camp starts in late September.
Thirty-five year old veteran Pete Mickeal could be a possibility, according to HoopsHype.
Lakers and Sixers are among a bunch of NBA teams interested in free agent forward Pete Mickeal, agent Happy Walters tells HoopsHype.— HoopsHype (@hoopshype) September 2, 2013
Mickeal is a 6-foot-5 small forward, originally drafted in 2000 by the Dallas Mavericks (58th overall).
Though he was waived before the 2000 season by Dallas, Mickeal spent some time with the New York Knicks during the season, but he was cut again without logging any game time.
Mickeal has continued his career, first in the ABA and then overseas. Recently, he has proved to be a valuable contributor for FC Barcelona in the Euroleague.
The league minimum for opening night (Oct. 29) is 13 players, with a maximum of 15. The Lakers will likely bring 16 to 20 players to training camp.
The team is expected to sign Ryan Kelly (48th overall pick), who is still working his way back from April foot surgery. The Lakers have also been linked to Marcus Landry, Shawne Williams, Nick Minnerath, Gary Forbes and Lou Amundson.
Judging by the personnel tied to the team, the Lakers are looking for another forward to flesh out the roster.
