‘Backstage Lakers’ to air Army captain’s family reunion
The reunion of Capt. Douglas Cox with his family at Staples Center will be featured on “Backstage Lakers” at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Returning briefly from duty in Afghanistan, the Army officer surprised his wife and four of their six children at a Lakers game on Jan. 25.
As cameras followed Cox while he was led to his family by Lakers spokesman John Black, Cox talks about feeling nervous.
“I’d rather jump out of an airplane,” said Cox. “The kind of butterflies I don’t normally experience.”
A preview of this touching moment has been posted online.
As a bonus, the Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz, 102-84, for the first of three wins in a row.
“Backstage Lakers,” which airs on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, chronicles the team’s season with exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage.
