Phil Jackson may be engaged to Jeanie Buss, a significant owner/executive of the Lakers, but according to the New York Daily News, Jackson is considering an offer from the New York Knicks to join their front office.

The Daily News cites an NBA source, claiming “Garden Chairman James Dolan has met with Jackson about a potential return to the franchise where he was a member of the Knicks’ only two championship teams.”

Jackson was a player for the Knicks when they won titles in 1970 and 1973.

The position reportedly would not be on the bench as head coach. Jackson has remained publicly adamant that his days on the bench are behind him.

Jackson has 11 NBA championship as a coach, five with the Lakers and six with the Chicago Bulls.

In a recent conversation with USA Today, Jackson indicated a desire to help shape a team in the front office, though he acknowledged that opportunity was unlikely to come with the Lakers with owners/executive Jim Buss and General Manager Mitch Kupchak already holding those responsibilities.

The Knicks (22-40), like the Lakers (21-41), are suffering through a difficult season. While the Lakers will have a lottery pick in the 2014 NBA draft, the Knicks traded their selection to Denver when they acquired All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony.
