Lakers’ week in review
Over the last week, Lakers forward/center Pau Gasol kept his Twitter followers up to date from Spain -- giving regular updates on his rehab process after procedures in May on both knees.
On Thursday, Gasol progressed to running on grass after most of his time spent rehabbing was on the treadmill, in a pool or weight room.
Gasol was named as spokesman for Madrid in their 2020 Olympic bid. He also bonded digitally with Kobe Bryant, in Los Angeles, over Barcelona’s Super Cup win.
Bryant continued to embrace social media, making his debut on Vine with what appears to be a jump from a 40-foot high-dive. In a survey, incoming NBA rookies voted Bryant their favorite player in the league.
Lakers guard/forward Nick Young hosted a back-to-school giveaway at Robertson Park, playing two-on-two with some local kids and even giving the sneakers off his feet.
In honor of the late Dr. Jerry Buss, the Bicycle Casino and World Poker Tour held the Mariani/Buss tournament, raising $7,825 for the Lakers Youth Foundation.
Lakers tickets for regular season games will go on sale to the public on Sept. 7.
The team is expected to have free agent forward Marcus Landry in training camp, although he has yet to sign a contract. A YouTube clip gave a glimpse of Landry’s summer workout.
Finally, Clippers’ super fan “Clipper Darrell” Bailey posted a picture of himself in Lakers’ colors, an apparent inside joke with Bryant. Bailey said he will continue to support the Clippers above all.
