‘Jeopardy!’ contestant guesses Magic Johnson played in NHL
Magic Johnson never played in the NHL.
While that might seem obvious to even a not-so-avid basketball fan, apparently under the bright lights of “Jeopardy!,” it’s not the easiest question (or as the case may be, answer).
Given the clue, “100+ assists in an NHL season has been accomplished only 13 times, 11 times by this player,” a contestant, named Joe, replied with the question, “Who is Magic Johnson?”
Contestant Diane, who had more than double than Joe in her point bank, answered correctly, “Who is Wayne Gretzky?”
Joe’s math was off as well -- given the NBA’s 82-game schedule, a player needs to average only about 1.3 assists to hit the 100-assist mark over a season.
Johnson averaged 11.2 assists over his 13-year career with the Lakers.
