Lamar Odom has checked into drug and alcohol rehab center, report says
Former Lakers forward Lamar Odom has checked into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, according to People.com.
Odom, currently a free agent after a season with the Clippers, has been the subject a variety of recent rumors related to drug abuse. He was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence last Friday.
Odom played for the Lakers from 2004 to 2011, winning two titles with the team along with the NBA’s sixth Man of the year award in 2011.
A well-liked fixture in the Lakers’ locker room, a number of teammates and colleagues have recently expressed concern:
I wish my friend @RealLamarOdom is doing well. All these rumors are really worrying me. Lamar is one of the best guys I’ve ever played with. — Pau Gasol (@paugasol) Aug. 27, 2013
Odom, drafted by the Clippers in 1999 with the fourth overall pick, played with them until 2003, leaving for the Miami Heat as a restricted free agent.
The Lakers acquired Odom from the Heat as part of the Shaquille O’Neal blockbuster trade.
In the summer of 2011, the Lakers dealt Odom to the Dallas Mavericks, acquiring a trade exception that was later used to bring in Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns.
