Cal Poly beats San Diego in UCLA regional opener

Cal Poly’s Joey Wagman surrendered only one earned run in eight innings in a 9-2 victory over San Diego, helping the Mustangs earn their first NCAA baseball tournament victory Friday in the UCLA regional opener.

Wagman (13-3) gave up only six hits and struck out three at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Mustangs (40-17) will play the winner of the evening game between UCLA and San Diego State.

San Diego (32-22) plays the loser.

Cal Poly’s Brian Mundell had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs.

San Diego’s Kris Bryant, whose 31 home runs lead the nation, was hitless in three at-bats.
