Watch WWE’s emotional tribute to Paul Bearer on ‘Monday Night Raw’
Since the death last week of William Moody, who portrayed legendary manager Paul Bearer, pro wrestling fans have been wondering how WWE would pay tribute to him on its flagship show, “Monday Night Raw.”
We found out Monday night.
The show opened with ring announcer Justin Roberts asking the fans in attendance in Indianapolis, and those watching at home, to watch a video. In the video, WWE owner Vince McMahon called Bearer “the most unique manager” in the history of the business.
It was a great two-minute video, featuring a lot of highlights from Bearer’s career and tributes from other wrestlers. When it was over, the fans in the arena gave it a standing ovation and started a “Paul Bearer” chant.
Then, The Undertaker’s music hit as the crowd erupted into cheers. Bearer was the manager of The Undertaker for years, and ‘Taker had been silent after the death of his friend. Undertaker walked to the ring and gave the signature down-on-one-knee Undertaker pose in front of an urn, which is the prop Bearer always took to the ring when he was a manager.
All in all, a well-done tribute to Bearer, and a fitting send-off to one of the most memorable characters in pro wrestling history.
